How to win my favor on Steam Greenlight

thumbs downHelpful hints for developers wanting to get my vote on Steam’s new Greenlight feature:

- If your game has pixelated graphics, I will not click on it.

- If your game prominently features zombies, undead corpses or “infected” masses, I will downvote it, you exploitative sluts.

- If your game uses traditional space opera or high fantasy tropes, I will probably ignore it.

- If your description contains the words “survival horror,” I might just go through the trouble to downvote and comment on how badly you need a more interesting life.

- If your game is set in the 20 Century … I’m listening.

- If your game isn’t done yet, why are you wasting my time with alpha footage or, worse, concept art? Go to Kickstarter.

- Steam punk. Yeah, I’m not over that yet. Hit me with your best shot.

- However, I am so over post-apocalyptic. Knock that shit off, unless you want to take the Final Fantasy X/Enslaved “overgrown ruin” approach.

- If you are trying to rip off Minecraft, shame on you, you lazy, ignorant moron.

- My kingdom for a version of Dwarf Fortress that mortal men can understand.

- The term “old school” makes my teeth grind.
